Answers to Your Challenges

How Do I Make The Perfect Weld? Or How Do I Prevent Porosity?

The Perfect Weld Q. How Do I Make The Perfect Weld? Or How Do I Prevent Porosity?

A. Regardless of the material to be welded, there are a few basic precautions which must be taken to avoid porosity in the weld and lack-of-fusion defects.

1. The material to be welded should be as clean as possible. All grease, oil, and other lubricants should be removed. For best quality welds, all scale, rust, and other oxide coverings should be either mechanically or chemically removed. This is of extreme importance when welding aluminum.

2. When welding carbon steel plate, use only the shielding gas-wire combination recommended for the specific variety of steel in use: killed, semi-killed, or rimmed.

Hot Tips and Hot Topics

Tips - Benefits of Using MK Consumables

Hot Tips TIP #1: No matter what version of Python gun you have, the same barrel liner will work for each version of Python when welding with aluminum wire. Simply order part number 931-0137 from MK Products, and that barrel liner will work for you.

TIP #2: If you are working with a Miller version of the Python gun that uses Miller consumables, you have the option to switch that gun over to MK tips and cups also. Simply order part number 003-2147. Remove your Miller barrel and install this MK Python barrel, and you can now use MK Products consumables.

This option can come in handy for those shops with multiple welding stations equipped with Python guns that are already running with MK consumables. These shops can now enjoy the benefits of using different power supplies and feeder combinations, and only have to work with the same set of consumables.
